Hans Roels

Hans Roels (°1971) has created experimental music performances, often with live electronics or computer algorithms, exploring radical forms of simultaneity and polyphony. Since 2015, he has opened up this practice to sounds and situations outside the usual concert hall and art institutions. His in-situ performances and ecological sound installations focus on listening and sounding as a multisensorial experience, related to real-world places and situations.

In the past he has taught piano and live electronic music, performed artistic research (at the Orpheus Institute, the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and the School of Arts Ghent), and was responsible for the concert programming and artistic direction in the Logos Foundation.

Hans Roels studied piano and composition at the conservatory of Ghent and his compositions were played in concert halls such as Issue Room Project (New York), Cafe Oto (London), Felix Meritis (Amsterdam), Circolo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), and de Singel (Antwerp).
